Madonna opens children’s hospital in Malawi, names it after her adopted daughter Mercy James
Although Madonna is usually known for being controversial, she’s also known to be charitable, as recently she opened a new children’s hospital wing at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, Malawi. The hospital is named after her daughter Mercy James (Mercy James Children’s Hospital), and was funded by Madonna’s charity the Raising Malawi charity. The opening ceremony for the Mercy James Children’s Hospital was held on July 11 2017.
“The Mercy James Center remains not only a world-class intensive care hospital”, Madonna exclaimed at the ceremony, ” but also a superior learning environment to train the next generation of Malawian healthcare workers. This is as much about healing as it is about empowerment.”
Madonna’s daughter Mercy James also spoke during the ceremony expressing “It is a great honor to know this hospital is named after me. But what’s more important is that we may help many kids and save many lives.” Mercy James is one of 4 children that Madonna has adopted from Malawi.
