Jay-Z’s ‘4:44’ drops and it’s definitely got some personal & real motifs

Jay-Z’s 13th album 4:44 has just hit speakers and headphones all around the world, and it’s definitely got a personal & real motif. First off there is for sure another development in the Jay-Z Kanye West feud with the song “Kill Jay Z“. “I know people backstab you, I felt bad too. But this ‘f–k everybody’ attitude ain’t natural …

… But you ain’t a Saint, this ain’t KumbaYe. But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye”, Jay-Z raps on the track, going to to say, “You gave him 20 million without blinkin’, He gave you 20 minutes on stage, fuck was he thinkin’?” Jay continued. “’F–k wrong with everybody?’ is what you sayin’. But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane”.

Then there is of course the title track “4:14” is for sure cheating themed, and is presumably Jay-Z’s official public apology to his wife Beyonce and family (who’s previous album Lemonade was very presumably ‘Jay-Z cheated on me’ themed). Jay-Z raps “And if my children knew, I don’t even know what I would do …

… If they ain’t look at me the same, I would prolly die with all the shame. You did what with who? What good is a menage a trois when you have a soulmate? You risked that for Blue?”. Jay-Z’s own mom comes out as being a lesbian on the track “Smile“, and it’s pretty safe to say that 4:44 is one of the most truthful albums The Truth has ever put out.
